How to Increase your Love for the Prophet (peace be upon him)

Bismillahi Babuna - How to Increase your Love for the Prophet ( loving the prophet (s)
(The meaning of Arabic text is Alive in our hearts)

 1. The Theory -The Who or the outward love shows you how to be like him ()

 i - Hilya Shareef
ii - Shamail Tirmidhi
iii - Kitab Ash-shifa

2. Practise - The How or the Inner love helps the heart to be close to him () this is done through Praise-(Singing) Qasida a well known text used is Qasidah Burdah that helps increase Love and increasing Nur in one's heart and other method recommended by Hadith is only through (Salawat), the best and well known text is Dalail Khayrat others can be used.

i -  Dalail khayrat by Imam Jazuli
ii - Burda Shareef of Imam Busiri

1. The Theory – As for the Who – that is learning who he the beloved of Allah () was and IS, and that can’t be done unless you learn about him (). So let's start with the Theory of Hilya Shareef, and then move to, Shamail Tirmidhi and finally Kitab Ash-shifa.

i - Hilya Shareef - what is the Hilya; this is the abridged (One Page of the Shamail) which has a few verses of Qu'ran and Hadith about the Virtues and Noble Characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad (), it's said by looking at a Hilya Shareef you are actually do a Ziyara of seeing ) in the form of Words rather than a photograph and there is a Hadith Tirmidhi about that too.

Tirmidhi, "For him who sees my Hilya after my death it is as if he had seen me myself, and he who sees it, longing for me, for him God will make Hellfire prohibited, and he will not be resurrected naked at Doomsday."

The Hilya (literally, "ornament") consists of short descriptions of the Prophet's  external and internal qualities, drawn from early Arabic sources. It is told that the Abbasid caliph Harun ar-Rashid bought such a description from a wandering dervish, rewarding him lavishly; the following night he was honoured by a vision of the Prophet, who promised him eternal blessings.

According to other popular traditions, the Prophet ﷺ himself advised his "four friends," the first four caliphs, before his death to remember his shama'il-nama, that is, the description of his looks and qualities. One who stitches the hilya in his shroud will be accompanied on his last way by a thousand angels who will recite the funeral prayer for him and ask forgiveness on his behalf until Doomsday.

Out of the simple, sonorous Arabic descriptions of Muhammad's
qualities more artistic forms developed. It seems that veneration of the hilya was especially widespread in Ottoman Turkey. There the calligraphers developed a peculiar style of writing it during the sixteenth century, which was perfected by Hafiz Osman, the master calligrapher of the late seventeenth century. These hilya, often imitated, are round, and beneath the circular frame that contains the description of the Prophet , the line "Mercy for the worlds" is written in large letters.

Even today, the hilya is usually printed according to the model set by Hafiz Osman and his disciples, and is kept in homes, to convey blessings upon the inhabitants. To execute a hilya in fine calligraphy was considered a work of great merit: one Turkish woman, widowed and childless, said she regarded the nine she had completed during her lifetime as a substitute for nine children, hoping that they would intercede for her at Doomsday.

Also the “Nalain shareef-Blessed Sandals“ I would like to add here, Of the proven blessing of the likeness of the Prophet’s (sandal is that whoever has it in his possession for tabarruk, it will safeguard him from the sedition of rebels and the mastery of enemies, and will be a barrier against every recreant devil and the evil eye of the envious. If the pregnant woman holds it in her right hand at the time of labour, her delivery will be easier by Allah’s change and His might. See link about Nalain shareef -link.

iii-Kitab Ash-shifa of Qadi Iyad  this a more detail/comprehensive larger book the full name is Kitab Ash-shifa bi tarif huqub al-Mustafa, (Healing by the recognition of the Rights of the Chosen One), of Qadi Iyad is perhaps the most frequently used and most commented upon handbook in which the Prophets life, his qualities his characteristics and miracles are described in every detail.
shifa book

Also i would like to add  reading the Sirah-The Prophet’s Biography. This is usually done in the month of Mawlid on this Birthday classically.

2. The practise – As for the How,  so once you have done step one which is to learn Who or the outward understand about him (which is also to copy or emulate him (meaning the following his “Sunnah-his way”) why when you love someone you emulate them.  Just look at those who love footballers or singers how they emulate them in dress and style and learn about there lifestle and habits.

The questions is why are we not doing the same for our hero and “star-Najm” the beloved of Allah(s) and show our love? by finding out Who he was and is that allows the mental “brain -’aql” to build a vision of him-(Muraqabah) in our minds and helps to  stir up a longing to love him also  step one helps the mind to also to see him in dreams, its known that after doing a intensive Shamail Tirmidhi  course many students also see the beloved in dreams to further underpin that love one needs the other “‘aql-the Heart” to also connect to him through the soul and mind and body, by praying or reciting salawat shareef and Poems or Odes of  and about him. As for salawat shareef this is an order from Allah from the Quran Surah:

Innallaha wa malaikatahu yusalluna ‘alannabi ya ayyuhalladzina amanu sallu alaihi wasallimu taslima-Allah and His angels shower blessings on the Nabee (Prophet). You who believe! Ask blessings on him and salute him with a worthy salutation/ abundantly. (33:56)

This a Command for all that Believe and is also fard upon Muslims to Love him, praise or not any not abit but abundantly meaning do it alot.

Note:

Also very important point Salawat shareef that is prays upon him ( is actual  pure Nur-Light that enters the body, mind soul makes it Nur too or part of the Salawat Nur encompasses or engulfs the reader too and cleanses them from sins due to the nature that its an order from Allah, he too is doing it so are his Angels and its the only guaranteed ibadah too and its blessings are endless and reading a powerful salawat shaeef gives more Nur-lights or anwar-lights as the energy it carries is more in powerful and many use them for needs to be fulfilled or problems to be quickly resolved such as marriage, jobs or other  personal issues.

i - Dalail khayrat by Imam Jazuli is a comprehensive book of  salawat and salam that abundantly praise the beloved of Allah ()
dalail khayrat
(cover of Dalail khayrat)

ii- Burda Shareef of Imam Busiri  is 160 line of  poem or Ode  there every verse ends in the letter Meem of Poems or Odes – An Ode is a poem that is often written elevated in style or manner and written in varied or irregular meter and is meant to be sung.

There are many  books of Salawat Shareef and other Odes that can be mentioned but these are the most well known and most ones.
